Being out of alignment is probably one of the best ways to suffer.
Basically your identity is at war with what you are actually doing. I think plenty of us can relate to that.
You keep doing things knowing good and well it’s not helping you and you shouldn’t do them. It’s pretty well encapsulated by Paul in Romans 7. You know the one. “For that which I do I allow not: for what I would, that do I not; but what I hate, that do I”
You do things you hate. You don’t do the things you know you value. Obviously this is a big problem.
It can lead to quite a good many bad ends too. Bad relationships, money problems, doubts, fears, insecurity. Just a sampling of what you can look forward to when you’re out of alignment.
