I’ve got two major tips on branding to give out today.
Most people will say this is obvious and maybe they’re right. But observing typical local business marketing and such I’d say it isn’t as common sense as you’d think. Or at least it isn’t implemented like it should be.
First is learn to be consistent.
Yeah I know this seems obvious but how often do you see this being done. I don’t always see consistency being emphasized in the marketing world. Its not flashy and attention getting enough for most gurus.
Being consistent is pretty much an absolute must-have with branding. Branding has to be consistent.
Tone, story, imagery, behavior, advertising style, social media presence, logos, and your color scheme need to stay consistent to build a brand identity. Otherwise it’s just changing with the wind and no coherent identity is established.
So the actionable tip is to do a self audit of your consistency. Not in how often you produce or promote things. I don’t think the time of day you do things or how many times a week are going to move the needle that much. What will move the needle is having consistency in every other way.
Number 2 is be authentic.
Or in other words be honest.
You can pretend for a while and maybe get by with it. Pretending to be something or somebody you aren’t is going to catch up with you and probably blow your brand reputation to pieces.
With the internet and social media pretending is obnoxiously common. I could throw up an anon account on twitter and start posting like I’m a real estate mogul expert and trying to position myself in that market. Even though it’s a total farce and I don’t truly know anything about being in real estate.
So set yourself apart and be authentic and genuine. It will pay off in the long run.
Not just with branding but with your own morality and sanity.
So there. Maybe elementary tips but as they say, you need a solid foundation to build on with anything.
